Sonia Bélanger is the last (wo)man standing from Premier François Legault’s trio of health and social services ministers. Social Services Minister Lionel Carmant jumped ship because, as a doctor married to a doctor with a daughter who is a doctor, he disagreed with Bill 2 foisting a new pay model on doctors. Christian Dubé then quit in a huff when the government backed down on the controversial law.
It’s up to Bélanger to fix the mess, hammer out the actual details of the mixed-pay model and come up with a plan for 500,000 orphan patients to be assigned to family medicine groups.
Can she handle the health-care revolution? She’s got her work cut out for her, Gazette columnist Allison Hanes writes.
