Ice dancers Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier are now Olympic medalists. The longtime pair won bronze in a dramatic ice dance event that also saw the new French team of Guillaume Cizeron and Laurence Fournier Beaudry take the gold.

In doing so, Cizeron and Beaudry — who only came together 11 months ago — beat the American favourites, Madison Chock and Evan Bates, for gold.

Gilles and Poirier’s bronze ends an eight-year Olympic medal drought for Canadian figure skating, which was shutout of the Beijing 2022 Games.
