Cubbie News

Dear Cub Run Families and Friends,

We have officially kicked off the third quarter, and the energy in our hallways is nothing short of inspiring! It has been a fantastic week of reconnection and celebration as we transition into the second half of our school year.

Our recent Cubbie Den meetings were a highlight last week. It was heartwarming to see our school community come together to work toward a common goal. I want to give a special shout-out to our fifth and sixth-grade students, who continue to step up as leaders in our quarterly meetings. They did an incredible job facilitating their groups and supporting our younger learners as each table collaborated to complete their unique Den puzzle. These puzzles serve as a great visual reminder that every student is a vital piece of our school family.

We concluded our Den meetings by honoring our quarterly C.A.R.E.S. certificate winners. These students consistently demonstrate Community, Acting Responsibly, Ready to Learn, Empathy, and Safe Choices. Please join us in congratulating them for setting such a wonderful example during the second quarter!

Additionally, let’s give a huge round of applause to our School Spelling Bee Winner, Avi Bagga! We are so proud of your hard work and look forward to cheering you on in the next round of competition at the FCPS Spelling Bee.

This week, we are proudly participating in the Westfield Pyramid Kindness Week. It’s been wonderful seeing everyone’s personality shine through our daily spirit wear! As we focus on being "bucket fillers," we are building momentum for a very special milestone this Friday. Friday marks our 100th Day of School! To celebrate 100 days of learning, our students are gearing up for 100 Acts of Kindness. We want to flood our school with positivity and show that small gestures can make a massive impact on our community. We will also be celebrating with 100 seconds of movement every 100 minutes and working towards a goal of 100 read alouds throughout the day!

Thank you for your continued partnership and for making our school such a kind place to learn and grow.

Warm regards,

Melissa Miller, Principal

Nausheen Haider, Assistant Principal

Positivity Project

This week, our school is focusing on the character strength of Love. Love means you value close relationships with others and being close to people.

Love is shown through our thoughts, feelings, and actions toward those we care about. When we love someone, we comfort them, make them feel safe, support them during tough times, and often put their needs before our own. When someone loves us, we feel safe and secure and can be ourselves around them. We miss them when they are not around.

Love is important for our community and society. We all depend on each other for happiness and well-being. Love creates positive feelings, helping to reduce loneliness, anxiety, and depression. Without love, we can't form strong bonds with our families, friends, or communities. A world without love would be a lonely and unsafe place.

To practice and encourage the character strength of love at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families (available in English and Spanish), where you will watch a video together and discuss a quote and three questions. Below are links to this week’s P2 for Families lessons. Click on the grade level that best meets your child’s needs.

Thank you for your support!

Student Experience Survey

In the coming weeks, FCPS will administer the Student Experience Survey to students in grades 3–12. This survey helps the school division better understand students’ experiences at school. The survey will be administered during the school day between February 23 and March 6 and will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.

Families who would like to review the survey may visit the Student Experience Survey webpage at http://www.fcps.edu/student-experience-survey.

All students in grades 3-6, except those who have opted out, will receive a link to the survey in their FCPS email on February 23. We will administer the survey during the school day between Monday, February 23, and Friday, March 6. If you do not want your child to participate, you can opt your child out, if you choose. The online opt-out form can be accessed at this link. This form only needs to be completed if you are choosing to opt your child out, and must be submitted by Friday, February 13.
