Dear Dranesville Families:

Last night, February 12, 2026, I joined my colleagues on the Fairfax County School Board to vote in favor of the FY 2027–2031 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). While no plan is perfect, I am confident it serves our community’s best interests and protects our $8.9 billion in public assets.

For too long, renovations have been dictated solely by a building’s age. Since joining the Board, I have advocated for a "condition-first" model where renovating schools should be based on their actual condition rather than just their age. This is vital for schools like McLean High School, Herndon Middle School, and Kent Gardens Elementary School.

With a new Facility Condition Assessment underway, I am hopeful we will have the data to prioritize projects where they are most needed across FCPS. I expect that this data will inform next year’s CIP, ensuring our taxpayer dollars are directed where the need is most urgent.

Thank you for your recent school bond support (passing with a 71% approval!). We continue to see the fruits of our labor right here in Dranesville even though we have more work to do. Our students have benefited from this disciplined approach. From major renovations to targeted capacity enhancements, we are seeing the results of our past planning in real time. Below, I have outlined specific capital improvements in our community schools.

Regards,

Robyn

Skyview High School

Skyview High School: New in Western Fairfax County

FCPS recently acquired a property for a new high school in the western part of the county. The school's new name was determined to be Skyview High School by the School Board at a February 12, 2026 meeting.

This is our first new high school in nearly two decades! It will provide state-of-the-art educational facilities to help address the growing educational needs in western Fairfax. The expansive 32.7 acre site, formerly the King Abdullah Academy, features 355,000 square feet of modern learning spaces, including large multi-purpose halls, libraries, fine arts facilities, and athletic areas.

Skyview High School Boundary Process

The boundary review process for the Skyview High School will begin soon. A final boundary decision for the new school will be made by June, but it will not be implemented until the 2027-28 school year.
