Dear Thoreau Families,
I am very excited to share the news that all Thoreau students will be participating in the Madison Pyramid Day of Service on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.
This day moves learning beyond the classroom, helping students grow as Ethical and Global Citizens. Through hands-on service, students will learn that they have the power to strengthen their community through intentional, compassionate action. Each school in our pyramid will participate in unique ways tailored to their students' ages and interests.
We look forward to partnering with you to make this day a success. In our next communication, we will share specific ways you can help, including a link to our Amazon Wish List for project supplies.

Report cards are posted to SIS StudentVUE and ParentVUE and mailed directly to families without ParentVUE accounts. Please note this is a change from previous years.
Overdue library book notices were emailed to students last week. Students who still have overdue books had notices emailed to parents Friday, February 13th. Please encourage your student to return or renew their overdue library book or follow up with one of the librarians regarding missing books. Thank you for your support. Families and community members are invited to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and uplift the voices shaping our future at FCPS’ Second Annual Black History Month Celebration. Rooted in Resilience: Echoes of Excellence will take place on Wednesday, February 25, at 6 p.m., at Carter G. Woodson High School.
The event will honor the rich history, strength, and contributions of the Black community through inspiring student performances and a powerful keynote address by Rev. Vernon C. Walton, pastor of First Baptist Church of Vienna. Light refreshments will be available.
