Flint Hill Updates

Good Afternoon Flint Hill Families,

It was wonderful to enjoy a full week of learning! Warmer temperatures allowed for more outdoor activities and a full schedule of events.

Science Night was a huge success! Thank you to Emily Calandrellli (The Space Gal), the FHES PTA, teachers and volunteers who made this event possible. Students were able to get hands on and messy with science in the gym and enjoy a front row seat to elephant toothpaste and paint can rockets!

The Senior Spelling Bee also produced 17 rounds of competitive action Thursday night. Mr. Baker was on hand to celebrate Natalie P., 6th grade, with her championship word, Kilimanjaro.  Last week, in the Junior Spelling Bee, Alexander B, 2nd grade, concluded 7 rounds of spelling with "pirates." Congratulations to our champion spellers and all of the students who joined in the Bees this year. A special thank you to Beth Major and Suerah Shirazi for making this event possible over the past few years.

FHES has collected over 144 lbs of winter clothing over the past few weeks. These donations have gone into immediate good use in our community and neighboring schools. We can continue to accept winter wear donations through the end of the month and will help get these items to students and families in need.

Be sure to see the flyers below for upcoming events, calendar updates and FHES opportunities.

Kindly,

Mr. Montaquila, Principal

Mr. Baker, Assistant Principal

Warm Up FCPS – Division-Wide Spirit Day

spiritwear

Tired of all the cold weather? Let’s warm up with a little school spirit across the division!

Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid is encouraging all FCPS students, teachers, and staff to shake the wrinkles out of their brightest outfits and tropical wear to help brighten everyone’s moods on Friday, February 20.

Meal Kits for Fasting Students

From February 18 to March 19, students who are fasting during the day can take school meals home. These kits include one breakfast and one lunch to be eaten after the school day ends.

Families must fill out a request form each week for every student who wants a kit. The first deadline is Wednesday, February 11, for the week of February 16. Please note other important details below:

  • Cost: Meals are charged just like a normal school day.
  • Pickup: Students must grab their kits at the end of the school day.
  • Menu: Kits include school meals that are easy to heat at home.

Visit the Food and Nutrition webpage for forms, deadlines, and other information. Please contact the Office of Food and Nutrition Services with any questions at FCPSFNS@fcps.edu or 703-813-4800.

Learn About Kindergarten at Flint Hill

kindergarten

Our kindergarten open house is being held on Wednesday, April 22nd at 1:45 pm to give parents of students entering school in August an opportunity to learn more about kindergarten at our school.

We recognize that parents are their children’s first teachers. Resources on the School Readiness and Transition to Kindergarten webpage provide parents with ways to support their children to help ensure a smooth transition to kindergarten.

There’s also an easy-to-follow five-step process outlined for registering your child for kindergarten. Register your child today! Contact our registrar, Mrs. Eason, at SAEason@fcps.edu or 703-242-6100 with any questions.

Save the Date - Silent Auction

When: March 21 from 7 to 10PM

Where: Jammin' Java

Get ready for a parents-only Silent Auction night on Saturday, March 21, filled with drinks, food, dancing, and live music at Jammin' Java. It’s shaping up to be a fun, festive night out while supporting our school community.

To make this event a success, we’ll need help from our amazing parents with securing silent auction items, day-of support, and organizing donations as they come in. In addition, each class will be creating a themed basket for parents to bid on, so please keep an eye out for more information from your room parents soon.

More details to come, but please save the date and reach out to Amy Zheng at fundraising@fhespta.org if you are able to volunteer or sign up below!

Please remind your student that cell phones and personal devices (AirPods, earbuds, headsets, other items connected to the internet) must be off and away for the entire school day (bell to bell). Cell phones are also not permitted to be used as an instructional tool.

FCPS’ cell phone policy helps students stay focused, safe, and engaged at school. Visit FCPS’ cell phone policy webpage for more information and answers to frequently asked questions, including consequences for cell phone policy violations and exceptions for students with medical conditions or IEP/504 plans.

Yearbook Snap!

Yearbook Snap

For the last couple of years, we have asked the community to upload photos to add to our Yearbook. We received LOTS of submissions! While we can’t use every photo in the yearbook, we would love to offer the opportunity for our families to submit photos again.  Our yearbook theme this year is “Our Shared Home”.

Please upload images to our Yearbook Snap. Access Code: flinthill25 In order to collect photos, we ask that they are either camera images or cell phone photos without the Live feature attached. If you upload photos and the ending is .HEIC instead of .JPG we are unable to use them in the yearbook.  We look forward to seeing everyone’s photo in the yearbook this year.

Remember to Pre-Order your Yearbook! You wouldn’t want to miss out.
