Talk And Draw With Heather Cox Richardson And Liza DonnellyWhat, To A Country, Is A Child's Birthday?Happy Valentine’s Day, all. I don’t know how you feel about February 14th as a holiday—it has its enthusiasts and it’s detractors. Every month, historian and friend Heather Cox Richardson and I chat about our next talk and draw. She told me she wanted to do something about Valentine’s Day, her childhood experience with the holiday was a good one. I less so, the consumerism of it all had clouded my mind. Then she told me a story from history that I found absolutely wonderful, it helped me reappreciate the day. She didn’t have to do any convincing that this is something we should share with you. The historical anecdote was new to me. It includes a poignant recollection from Frederick Douglass, which I think helps us remember the real meaning of February 14th , his birthday. This story is about memory, identity and love. Valentine’s Day is about caring for each other. I will stop writing now, and let the words and drawing tell the story! I hope you enjoy.
