Today's Milan Cortina Olympics Headlines

Sunday, February 15

What happened to Canada? America's neighbors to the north have historically proven to be a formidable force at the Winter Olympics. That's not happening in Italy, and Canada's dearth of gold thus far is hardly the most-talked-about saga involving the country. By now you've heard of the curling controversy. There were F-bombs. There were accusations of cheating. It happened in the men's tournament. Then it happened in the women's. We're accustomed to controversy at the Olympics. But in curling? There's plenty more of that sport going on today (the U.S. women are taking on China right now. China gets Canada later.) Speaking of controversy, figure skating is back! Two American pairs, including a duo that helped the U.S. win team gold, take the ice for the short program portion. Before that, two U.S. pairs look to take medals in the skeleton mixed team event. It's the newest Olympic event, so it's guaranteed to be something never seen before. And later this afternoon, the U.S. men's hockey team takes on Germany. This, after allowing a stunning 95-foot goal that may become the stuff of hockey lore. Facepalm.

What happened to Canada? Country shut out in golds, makes headlines for wrong reasons

The halfway point of these Milan Cortina Games finds Canada in a rather unusual position.

America’s neighbors to the north have historically proven to be a formidable force at the Winter Olympics, peaking when Vancouver hosted the Games back in 2010. The 2010s were banner years for the country — 14 golds in 2010, 10 golds in 2014 and 11 golds in 2018.

Half of the medals have been handed out in Italy and so far, Canada holds eight medals — none of them gold.

In net for the U.S. against Denmark at the Milan Cortina Olympics on Saturday night, Jeremy Swayman gave up a goal from 95 feet out that could get talked about for years to come.
