A Note from Dr. Goodloe:

Dear Chantilly Community,

WE have had a great (short) week at Chantilly! It was wonderful to welcome our Chargers back to school after the long weekend. WE have many Chargers competing in VA State Championships for Special Olympics Basketball, Swim and Dive, and Wrestling this weekend. Wishing all of our athletes the best of luck!

New Visitor Management System

We are excited to announce that our school is now using the new Raptor Visitor Management System (VMS). This upgrade is part of our school’s and FCPS’ ongoing commitment to enhancing school safety and streamlining the process for visitors at our school. The VMS ensures that no visitor is on the sex offender registry.

For most visitors, the user experience will be the same when you check-in at the front office.

But now there is also an app, which can make check-in’s even faster at school. Visitors who choose to download the RaptorSafe App and create a Raptor Passport can pre-verify their information before they get to school. The app will give you a QR code you can use when you check-in at school.

If you have questions or need assistance with the new system, please contact our front office. Thank you for your partnership in keeping our schools safe!

FCPS AI Challenge Results

In the inaugural FCPS Student AI Innovation Challenge, students were challenged to work in teams to build AI-powered apps in the Playlab platform that would solve a problem in their school or community. More than 60 Chantilly High School students completed the challenge, learning more about artificial intelligence through a self-paced curriculum that covered how AI works, how to mitigate risks such as bias, and how to use computational thinking to design, test, and refine their apps.

Winners for the Chantilly portion of the Student AI Challenge include:

1st place: Arian Miran and Sahiti Tanuku for Find Your Home

2nd place: William Kim, Aarav Gupta, and Satvik Pothula for SafeSign AI

3rd place: Ehaan Miran, Sai Snithik Nannuru, and Skanda Baskar for Build-a-Career

Honorable Mentions:

Meghana Nanapaneri for Sage

Sarina Mohamud, Saivenkata Gajulapalli, and Mawluda Hussainkhail for MedDose

Corwyn Jean-Baptiste for Uni-Pathway

Congratulations to Arian Miran and Sahiti Tanuku, who placed in the top five in the county competition!

WE appreciate your ongoing support and partnership. I look forward to connecting with you at Chantilly very soon.

Sincerely,

Amy T. Goodloe, Ed.D.

Course Selection Deadlines- Revised Dates

We have revised our course selection deadlines as outlined below to account for the weather closures earlier this month:

March 16, 2026 - Last day to submit a course request including schedule changes or enrolling in a summer school course.  Failure to notify the counselor of enrollment may result in the student not being enrolled in the proper level course and seats may not be available if notification occurs after March 16.  Please note that the deadline to enter a course request for a Fairfax or Chantilly HS academy course will remain March 6, 2026.

Meal Kits for Fasting Students

From February 18 to March 19, students who are fasting during the day can take school meals home. These kits include one breakfast and one lunch to be eaten after the school day ends.

Families must fill out a request form each week for every student who wants a kit. The first deadline is Wednesday, February 11, for the week of February 16. Please note other important details below:

  • Cost: Meals are charged just like a normal school day.
  • Pickup: Students must grab their kits at the end of the school day.
  • Menu: Kits include school meals that are easy to heat at home.

Visit the Food and Nutrition webpage for forms, deadlines, and other information. Please contact the Office of Food and Nutrition Services with any questions at FCPSFNS@fcps.edu or 703-813-4800.

Enhancing Safety and Security for Staff and Students

School safety and security are being enhanced across FCPS with a new emergency management system. The system includes sensors installed in schools and a wearable emergency response button (ERB) for staff.

The button allows staff to quickly and discreetly request help and, once pressed, they provide location information within the school. The ERB will only work on school grounds and does not rely on cellular service. It is not meant to replace calling 911, but is an additional safety tool that can be used if calling 911 may not be safe or practical.

Learn more about the emergency management system. You may submit questions to the FCPS Chief of Safety and Security Office

Attendance: Be PRESENT!

At Chantilly, we believe the best learning happens when our entire community is present.  We value the importance of family time and also want to share a reminder regarding the Virginia Compulsory Attendance Law.

Under state guidelines, vacations are classified as elective absences, which are recorded as unexcused absences.  In these cases, the parent supports the absence but this does not qualify them under state-mandated reporting of excused absences.  VAC 8VAC20-720-10 defines an unexcused absence as any absence where the parent or caregiver’s reason is “unacceptable to the school administration.” Given the compulsory attendance law and that vacations are an elective absence–regardless of whether they were pre-arranged or not–it falls under the unexcused category.  Families are encouraged to plan trips and vacations during designated school holidays to minimize absences during school hours and ensure uninterrupted instruction.

We urge parents and guardians to collaborate with our school support teams to encourage consistent attendance. Together, we can ensure every student receives the high-quality education they deserve.

Thank you for your continued support!

You can refer to the FCPS attendance page for more information about attendance codes and other attendance-related matters: https://www.fcps.edu/about-fcps/leadership/district-performance-transparency/policies-regulations-notices/attendance-0 (shorter link: https://bit.ly/4rMGp6N)

Checking out early?

The best and most efficient way to check your student out of school early is to send a note with them to take to their Subschool Office in the morning! Or call your child's subschool before 9 a.m. to request early dismissal. You can find the phone numbers at the bottom of this email and on the Chantilly Attendance page.

  • Your student will receive a pass to leave class at the time you specify.
  • You won't need to come inside the school; your student will simply come out to meet you.

Please be aware that if you sign your student out in person, it can take up to 30 minutes for the pass to reach them, making sending a note the quickest option!

Important Reminders:

  • Email is not accepted for reporting absences or early checkouts.
  • If a student becomes sick during the school day, they must be checked out through the clinic, not the Subschool Office, or by text with the student..

School Photos are now online!

Families should have received an E-proof via email.

Please remember to check your junk folder!.

For any questions about your student's school pictures please contact: underclass@vosphoto.com

The team at Victor O’Neill Studios would like to thank Chantilly High School for a great picture day!

Volunteer FCPS

Volunteer FCPS Helps Community Members Connect With Schools

The new volunteer management system, Volunteer FCPS, allows individuals to search and register for volunteer opportunities at our school or across the school district.

Volunteer FCPS is how FCPS provides a safe, consistent, and welcoming environment at all of our schools. Anyone interested in volunteering with FCPS must:

  • Create a profile in Volunteer FCPS.
  • Register for opportunities through Volunteer FCPS.
  • Sign in and out of schools using the visitor kiosk on EVERY visit – no exceptions.

Recent Updates to Volunteer Opportunity Levels

Due to the overwhelming response, FCPS is temporarily pausing fingerprint requirements for most Level 3 volunteers. Those who have already been fingerprinted will be processed to be eligible for all Level 3 opportunities.

Field trip chaperone opportunities will now be classified as Level 2 (not requiring a comprehensive background check that includes fingerprinting).

To ensure continuous safety, all new volunteers are required to sign a Volunteer Certification Statement. This statement is a legal confirmation that you have no history of violent felonies, physical or sexual crimes against children, or crimes of moral turpitude (dishonesty, fraud, things that are immoral by society’s standards).

Visit the Volunteer FCPS website to complete a volunteer orientation. View Frequently Asked Questions to learn more about the volunteer levels.
