WWES Friday Updates 2/20/2026

Dear Waynewood Owls,

It was a joy to see so many of our families gathered in the gym this week for Bingo Night!  It was fun to share pizza and laughs while waiting with bated breath for that final number to be called (and many hoping to hear them call O-67…will that trend ever die?).

An evening like that takes an incredible amount of hard work and coordination. I want to extend a big thank you to our PTA Bingo chairperson, Holly Williams. Her work behind the scenes ensured the night ran seamlessly. We also owe a round of applause to our charismatic callers, Mr. Taylor and Mr. Reigner. Their energy on the microphone kept us all entertained and on the edge of our seats! A big thank you is also due to our 6th-grade committee for managing the concessions; your efforts are helping to make the final year for our oldest students truly memorable.

As we look toward the week ahead, I want to share a few important logistical reminders. Please mark your calendars for this coming Wednesday, February 25. This will be a three-hour early release day for all students, with dismissal taking place at 1:00 PM. Please ensure that your afternoon transportation plans are coordinated so that our Owls get home safely and smoothly.

Looking further into March, one of our favorite events is just around the corner: the Book Fair! This event will take place from March 9-13, with the proceeds directly benefiting the Waynewood library. These funds allow us to refresh our collection and ensure that every student, regardless of their interests, has access to a wide variety of high-quality reading materials. The PTA is currently looking for volunteers to help man the fair and assist our young shoppers. If you have a few hours to spare, please consider signing up for a shift; it is a wonderful way to see the pure joy on a child’s face when they find the perfect book.

Thank you for being an active part of the school community! . Whether you are shouting "Bingo," volunteering at the book fair, or simply reading with your child at night, your involvement makes all the difference. I hope you all have a wonderful, restful weekend!

Sincerely,

Katie Cachine, Principal

Alyssa Bonner, Assistant Principal

Allison Ovalle, Assistant Principal

We have finalized our Spring SOL Schedule for Grades 3-6.  Please try to avoid scheduling appointments on the days your child will be testing.  Thank you!

New Visitor Management System

We are excited to announce that our school is now using the new Raptor Visitor Management System (VMS). This upgrade is part of our school’s and FCPS’ ongoing commitment to enhancing school safety and streamlining the process for visitors at our school. The VMS ensures that no visitor is on the sex offender registry.

For most visitors, the user experience will be the same when you check-in at the front office.

But now there is also an app, which can make check-in’s even faster at school. Visitors who choose to download the RaptorSafe App and create a Raptor Passport can pre-verify their information before they get to school. The app will give you a QR code you can use when you check-in at school.

If you have questions or need assistance with the new system, please contact our front office. Thank you for your partnership in keeping our schools safe!
