Students Right & Responsibilities (SR&R) Survey

Survey for All Families closing today

On Monday, all FCPS parents/caregivers and middle and high school students received an email to participate in a voluntary and confidential survey. (Please check your spam folder if you have not received it.)

Questions refer to proposed changes to FCPS’ SR&R document for next year. This document outlines the rules that students are expected to follow, and guidelines for consequences if those expectations are not met. Possible changes include:

  • Universal Discipline: Charts will list consequences and supports for students. They will help ensure that two students of the same grade will be treated fairly and receive the same level of support.
  • Standards for In-School Suspensions of Students with Disabilities: Creating standards for how in-school suspensions are handled for students who have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or a 504 Plan.
  • Accommodations for Multilingual Learner Student Statements: Providing translation accommodations when Multilingual Learner students provide statements about disciplinary incidents.

The survey will be open until Friday, February 20. Survey materials are available online.

FCPS Student Experience Survey

In the coming weeks, FCPS will be administering the Student Experience Survey to all students in grades 3-12. It will help the school division better understand students’ experiences in our schools. It will take about 30 minutes and be completed during school hours on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at Hayfield Elementary School. If you would like to preview the survey, please see the preview available here: Student Experience Survey Preview.

If you do not want your child to participate in the survey, you may opt them out by completing and returning this form to the office: Student Experience Survey Opt-Out . You may also opt your child out by emailing Assistant Principal Seamus O'Connor at skoconnor@fcps.edu .

Thank you for supporting our efforts to make improvements in FCPS schools. If you have questions about the Student Experience Survey, please contact research@fcps.edu

Hayfield SCA Collecting Donations

Hayfield SCA will be collecting pantry and household items for Koinonia from February 18 – March 6 in celebration of Read Across America Week. We are looking for donations of the following items:

  • paper towels
  • dishwasher detergent
  • cleaning supplies
  • shampoo/conditioner
  • toothpaste and toothbrushes
  • bath soap
  • toilet paper and tissues

The collection will end on Friday, March 6. Thank you for helping us support families in our community!

Coinless Scholastic Book Fair

Our Scholastic Book Fair is coming to school March 9–13! Students, families, and teachers are all invited to shop for new books and fun learning items.

Bookfair Hours:

  • Monday–Thursday: 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

  • Friday: 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Students will preview the Book Fair on Monday, March 9 and bring home a wish list of books they would like to buy. We strongly recommend using eWallet. We will not be accepting personal checks or coins. Balances for cash payments will be rounded to the nearest dollar.

Parents and family members may visit anytime during the week to shop and credit cards may be used by adults only. Adults may also take their child out of lunch to shop together.

Support Classrooms

Teachers will create eWallet accounts to purchase books for their classroom libraries. They will share their links if you would like to donate. Any amount is appreciated and helps provide books for students for years to come.

We always need volunteers to help with shopping and working the cash registers. The more help we have ensures the children can get their books.

For more information about the fair, volunteering, or setting up eWallet, visit:

Register Today With Volunteer FCPS

Volunteer FCPS allows individuals to search and register for volunteer opportunities. It helps ensure a safe, consistent, and welcoming environment here at Hayfield Elementary School. There are many opportunities coming soon to help out with the book fair and chaperone field trips in Spring.

All volunteers will be required to be registered. Chaperones should select Level 2 and book fair volunteers may select Level 1 or 2 if you plan to volunteer on a regular basis.  All volunteers must:

  • Create a profile in Volunteer FCPS.
  • Register for opportunities through Volunteer FCPS.
  • Sign in and out of schools using the visitor kiosk.

At the Volunteer FCPS site, you can complete a volunteer orientation. Visit the Volunteer FCPS Frequently Asked Questions for more information.

Purple Up! T-shirts

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) and Hayfield Elementary are gearing up to honor and celebrate its military-connected youth in April, the Month of the Military Child, and on Purple Up! Day!

This year, Virginia will celebrate Purple Up! Day on Wednesday, April 15, 2026. Purple Up! Day is a special day for communities to come together and wear purple as a visible gesture of support for our military-connected youth and their families. Purple symbolizes the combined colors of all branches of the military.

FCPS Purple Up! T-shirts and other items are available for purchase now through Wednesday, March 11, 2026, in our Custom Ink online store. These items highlight our gratitude and appreciation for our 14,500 military-connected students and their families. #PurpleUpFCPS!

Families must fill out a request form each week for every student who wants a kit.

  • Cost: Meals are charged just like a normal school day.
  • Pickup: Students must grab their kits at the end of the school day.
  • Menu: Kits include school meals that are easy to heat at home.

Kindergarten Registration

Learn About Kindergarten at Hayfield Elementary

Our kindergarten open house is being held on Wednesday, March 25 at 2:00 p.m. to give parents of students entering school in August an opportunity to learn more about kindergarten at our school.

We recognize that parents are their children’s first teachers. Resources on the School Readiness and Transition to Kindergarten webpage provide parents with ways to support their children to help ensure a smooth transition to kindergarten.

There’s also an easy-to-follow five-step process outlined for registering your child for kindergarten. Register your child today!  For more information, contact our Student Information Assistant, Jailene Acevedo, by phone at 703-924-4507 to set up an appointment.
