Quebec saw a 25-per-cent drop in vehicle thefts in 2025 compared with the previous year, but auto industry experts warn that organized crime groups are developing increasingly sophisticated methods.
One technique that has been emerging is vehicles being purchased at car dealerships under a stolen or fraudulent identity, and then criminals put the cars on shipping containers before the car is paid off, writes The Gazette's Leora Schertzer.
