Fewer Colorado hospitals lost money in 2024 than in 2023, though they aren't back to pre-pandemic profit levels.

The state's data lags by a year, so we'll have to wait until January for 2025 numbers. Still, it's worth taking stock of how hospitals are faring financially, since Colorado is holding off on Medicaid rate increases this year and the number of uninsured people will keep climbing as federal changes to the insurance marketplace and Medicaid take effect.

Overall profit margins ranged from a high of 33% at UCHealth Poudre Valley Hospital to a low of -182% at CommonSpirit St. Francis-Interquest, which opened in Colorado Springs that year.
