CMS Extends GENEROUS Model Application Deadline for Drug Manufacturers

Today CMS announced it would extend the application deadline for drug manufacturers to apply to the GENErating cost Reductions fOr U.S. Medicaid (GENEROUS) Model from March 31, 2026, to April 30, 2026, giving more time to manufacturers interested in taking part in this model.

As part of the Administration’s commitment to improve health care affordability, GENEROUS lowers prescription drug spending in Medicaid, helping to support increased access to critical medications for some of America’s most vulnerable populations and strengthen the Medicaid program overall, with greater flexibility in state budgets to invest in other crucial resources.

Under the GENEROUS Model, CMS will directly negotiate drug pricing with participating manufacturers to align Medicaid net prices with what certain other countries pay and then participating State Medicaid agencies will receive supplemental rebates for those included drugs.

CMS invites interested manufacturers that want to discuss their potential participation in the model to contact generousmodel@cms.hhs.gov starting March 2 with the subject line “Small/midsize Manufacturer meeting request.” CMS will schedule these meetings beginning April 1, 2026.
