The Measured Mom

Some students can decode accurately.

But decoding accurately and reading fluently are two very different things.

I see this especially with students who are making progress in phonics.

They can figure out the words.

But the reading is still slow.

They’re focused on getting through each word - not reading with ease.

Fluency doesn’t automatically develop just because phonics instruction is in place.

Automaticity requires building word reading to the point where it no longer demands conscious effort.

And it has to be taught and reinforced.

In my upcoming workshop, The Fluency Formula, we’ll spend time unpacking what fluency really involves and why automaticity is the missing link for so many readers. We’ll look closely at instructional routines that help students move from accurate decoding to reading with ease.

The workshop is happening this Saturday, March 7, from 9:00 - 10:30 AM Central.

And today is the last day to register at the early bird price.

We are currently rebranding from The Measured Mom, which was our business name for 13 years. Because of that, you will still see themeasuredmom.com on many of our resources. We hope to complete the entire transition by the end of 2026.
