Fire Safety Bingo (10:30 - 11:30 a.m.)
Join Fire and Rescue for a fire safety bingo at Great Falls Library. Discover safety tips, check out helpful resources and learn how you can help firefighters help you. This activity will be followed by a visit from firefighters and a firetruck if no emergencies arise.
Photography: Light Painting (12:30 - 1:45 p.m.)
Learn how to use shutter speeds and light sources to create interesting scenes, designs and portraits with cameras, lenses and tripods at George Mason Regional Library in Annandale. Participants must be familiar with manually adjusting aperture, shutter speed and ISO settings.
The Lees at Sully (1 - 2 p.m.)
Discover the 1794 home built for Richard Bland Lee, Northern Virginia's first Congressman, at Sully Historic Site in Chantilly. Hear stories of his family and friends, political career and the lives of the people enslaved at Sully. This program links to the VA250 and the Fairfax250 commemoration. Registration is $10.
Hike with a Naturalist (4 - 5 p.m.)
Take a hike and explore wild plants and animals throughout the trails at Lake Accotink Park in Springfield. Learn how to use the iNaturalist app to take pictures of things you find along the way. Smart phones, cameras and binoculars welcome. Registration is $9.
Simple Science: STEAM Activities (4:30 - 5:30 p.m.)
Come to Oakton Library for hands-on STEAM activities. STEAM education encourages students to think more broadly about real-world problems.
Night Shift Naturalists (5:30 - 6:30 p.m.)
Explore nocturnal ecosystems with UV lights, sound identification and moth-attracting techniques at Lake Accotink Park in Springfield. Learn how night creatures navigate, hunt and communicate in darkness while discovering bioluminescence and nocturnal adaptations. Registration is $9.
