Congratulations to our February Kangas CARE recipients who are always demonstrating Cooperation, Acceptance, Responsibility, and Empathy! We are very proud of you.
Family Engagement Survey
FCPS will administer our third Family Engagement Survey from Monday, March 9 to Monday, March 23. The survey is designed to gather data for Strategic Plan Pillar B: Vibrant Home, School, and Community Partnerships; and to better recognize, understand, respect, and address family strengths and needs in our schools and community.
The survey will also be used to measure FCPS's current success with family engagement and allow us to deepen that engagement and continue building trust while empowering families to support their students’ success.
Parents/caregivers should have received an email invitation with a unique survey link from FCPS on March 9. The subject line was: FCPS Family Engagement Survey. The survey will take approximately 10-15 minutes.
A general survey link families can use is also available on FCPS’ website.
Social-Emotional Learning Screener
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) believes in supporting social and emotional learning (SEL) for all students. In FCPS, students use a tool called the SEL Screener to think about their own SEL skills and experiences at school.
Keene Mill students in grades 3-6 will be participating in the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener this spring just as they did last fall. The screener will be offered to students between March 18-23 during their school day.
After each screening, results are available in the Documents tab of SIS ParentVUE and mailed to families without a ParentVUE account. For more information about the SEL Screener, including information on opting out, please visit the county’s Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage, or contact Sandi Yost, Counselor and SEL Lead, at 703-644-4735.
Book Fair March 9-13
The annual Scholastic Book Fair will be held March 9–13 in the library. Students will visit the fair throughout the week.
On Wednesday, March 11th, families are invited to come for FAMILY NIGHT from 5:00PM-8:00 PM to browse and purchase books.
Additional information will be coming home in the coming weeks. You can also preview the fair at Keene Mill Book Fair 2026
The Book Fair accepts all major forms of payments, and we even offer the option for families to create a Book Fair eWALLET for their student to shop the fair. No need to worry about cash being lost or misplaced. The money is secure and rolls over year to year. Plus, you can share your eWallet link so friends and family can help your child find even more to read. Unspent funds from a past Fair? To transfer them to this Fair, log in to your Scholastic account and create a new eWallet—then your previous balance will be available to transfer as an eGift Card. Visit the Book Fair Link.
Keene Mill's Share the Fair fund provides books to fellow Kangas who may not be able to afford them and helps purchase books for the KMES library. SHARE THE FAIR EWALLET (The donation eWallet is registered under the name of Keene Mill's librarian Mr. Rigsby.) During the Fair, boxes are available for cash donations at the registers. At Checkout, students and parents can choose to round-up purchases as a contribution to Share the Fair.
Calling all volunteers!! We need many volunteers to help us out with setup, take down, helping our students find great books and sales!! If you are interested you can sign up here: SIGN-UP GENIUS
We can’t wait to see you at the Fair!
