Good afternoon, Lorton Station families!
It was wonderful to see our students and staff embrace the joy of reading during our Read Across America Spirit Week! The excitement around books, costumes, and classroom activities truly highlighted our school's strong reading culture. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the week so memorable for our students.
The Book Fair begins next week, and we are excited for students to explore new books and discover stories they will love. Families are also invited to join us for Parent Night next Thursday from 6 - 8 PM, where you can visit the Book Fair to browse and purchase.
As a reminder, Daylight Saving Time begins this weekend, and clocks will move forward one hour on Sunday. This change can affect students’ sleep schedules, so we encourage families to begin adjusting bedtime routines to help children get the rest they need to stay focused and ready to learn. We look forward to another great week of learning together!

Women’s History Month
March is Women’s History Month. Throughout the month, students will engage in learning experiences that highlight the achievements, contributions, and impact of women throughout history and in our world today.
Have a great day,
Dr. Legagneur, Mr. Barton, and Ms. Champion

Sunday, March 8, at 2 a.m., daylight saving time begins. Don’t forget to move your clocks ahead one hour! As a result of the time change, many students will be walking to school or to bus stops in the dark. Help your child stay safe by having them wear reflective clothing and bright or light colors, or add reflective items to their backpacks or clothes. Also, encourage your child to be especially alert for cars that are turning or backing up and not to run into the street or cross between parked cars.

Dear families,
I am excited to share that the annual Lorton Station Elementary School book fair will be held this year from Friday, March 6th, to Friday, March 13th. At this time, your student will be able to preview the books and then shop the fair during their library time. We will also have a “Family Night of Shopping” on Thursday, March 12th, from 6-8 pm, when you can shop the fair with your student! Throughout the fair, we encourage parents to create an “ewallet,” which is as easy as setting up an email account. Information about the ewallet and a preview of the fair can be found here-https://www.scholastic.com/bf/lortonstationelemschool
Additionally, the library is in need of volunteers who can help on our sale days. If you are able, please use the following SignUp Genius link to volunteer and provide great books to young minds! Any help is greatly appreciated!

Pre-K and Early Head Start Programs
FCPS Pre-K and Early Head Start programs provide a high-quality early learning experience for qualifying children with economic and educational risk factors, ages 6 weeks to 4 years, living in Fairfax County.
- Pre-K prioritizes 4-year-old applicants but also accepts applications for children who will be 3 years old by September 30 of the same year.
- Early Head Start is located at three elementary schools — Clearview, Crestwood, and Dogwood — and accepts applications from pregnancy to 2 years old.
Families are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. Space is limited and provided based on need, not on a first-come, first-served basis.
Applications are accepted online, by email, by mail, or in person at the program office at 7423 Camp Alger Avenue, Falls Church, Virginia 22042.
If you have a question about the application process or status, please call 703-208-7900 (English) or 703-208-7901 (Spanish).
 National Women’s History Month
Every year, March is designated Women’s History Month by presidential proclamation. The month is set aside to honor women’s contributions in American history.Learn more about the heritage months, celebrations, and traditions celebrated in FCPS. It’s Kindergarten Registration Time!
Kindergarten helps children learn and practice the social, emotional, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills they will use throughout their lives.
Fairfax County public schools typically conduct kindergarten registration events, including orientation, in the spring. Eligible children can be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps schools prepare and ensure they have the teachers and resources needed on the first day of school.
If your child will attend our school, please gather necessary documents and complete registration forms as soon as possible.
FCPS offers support and resources for all families to help with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For support in other languages, please visit the FCPS Registration webpage.
Want a quick way to recognize an employee or team? Share an FCPS CARES! Families, colleagues, and students are all invited to submit. The FCPS CARES is automatically sent to the recipient(s) and their supervisor, and is posted on fcps.edu. Additionally, each month one school in our region wins a staff celebration party from HR. Encourage your community to show our staff that their hard work is appreciated
