Principal’s Message to Families

Dear Ravensworth Families,

This week Ravensworth students and staff celebrated National Read Across America Week. Our incredible librarian, Ms. Sloan, led this celebration with our Spirit Week, book celebrations, and activities. We are looking forward to our upcoming Read-Athon and Author’s Visit in April.

March 3 – 7^th is National Social Workers Week. Ravensworth ES enjoyed honoring our Social Worker, Heather Colby, for her expertise and commitment to caring for our community. Please see the information about the role of social workers in FCPS in this newsletter.

Another highlight of our week included our highly successful Cereal Drive collected for Food for Others, a non-profit company that supports families in Fairfax County. Thank you to our families who donated and to the organizers Ms. Sophia, mother of Ryan Sophia, and our teacher Ms. Rex. Big shout out to the Daniels family for donating over 20 boxes of cereal!

Ravensworth ES hosted the Special Election this past Tuesday, and our PTA held our March general meeting on Wednesday evening. Thank you to all our community members and families who contribute so much to make Ravensworth ES great!

Mr. Daniels and daughter Vivian contributing a multitude of boxes to our cereal drive. Thank you to Ms. Rex and Ms. Sophia for leading this community service project.

Ravensworth ES Hosting: Share Your Thoughts With Our FCPS Superintendent: Dr. Reid

As a listening leader, connecting with community members across our division is critical to Dr. Reid. Her Community Conversations are opportunities for you to share your thoughts and ask questions. Events will be held this spring (from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted) on:

Tuesday, March 17, from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m., at Glen Forest Elementary School.
Monday, March 23, at Ravensworth Elementary School.
Monday, April 13, at Belle View Elementary School.
Monday, April 20, at Westgate Elementary School.
Wednesday, April 22, at Crestwood Elementary School.

Click on a date to register to attend that event. Registration is not required, but helps with planning, especially for childcare and interpretation services.

Purple Up! Store Now Open (Orders due Mar. 9)

Fairfax County Public Schools will celebrate Purple Up! Day on April 15, 2026 in honor of the Month of the Military Child. Purple Up! spirit wear is now available through our Custom Ink pop-up store. Items include T-shirts, hoodies, pajama pants, key chains, and yard signs.

New Visitor Management System

We are excited to announce that our school is now using the new Raptor Visitor Management System (VMS). This upgrade is part of our schools and FCPS’ ongoing commitment to enhancing school safety and streamlining the process for visitors at our school. The VMS ensures that no visitor is on the sex offender registry.

For most visitors, the user experience will be the same when you check-in at the front office.

But now there is also an app, which can make check-in’s even faster at school. Visitors who choose to download the RaptorSafe App and create a Raptor Passport can pre-verify their information before they get to school. The app will give you a QR code you can use when you check-in at school.

Yearbooks on Sale Now!

Don’t miss out on this year’s Ravensworth Elementary Yearbook! Yearbooks cost $18.50 and must be pre-ordered by April 27 at https://ybpay.lifetouch.com using Yearbook ID Code 4882626 and the school name, Ravensworth Elementary School. Families may also pay by cash or check (made payable to Ravensworth PTA) and should include the student’s name, teacher’s name and grade, and parent’s name on the order form. Optional add-ons include Yearbook Stickies ($3.00), Zoom Events ($4.00), an Autograph Insert ($3.00), and personalization with a name imprint ($5.00). Yearbooks will be distributed during the last week of school, so order yours today to celebrate the memories of this school year!
