Why can Democrats still not accept that voters don’t want to force girls to play sports with boys? One might have assumed after the 2024 elections that the party would steer away from candidates with a history of promoting social radicalism with pseudoscientific nonsense. An obvious one to avoid was the Texas politician who took this quackery to new depths by adding a layer of progressively reimagined religion on top of his junk gender science. Yet amazingly Texas state legislator James Talarico is now the Democratic nominee for a U.S. Senate seat. This easily could and should have been avoided. Josh Barro has been rooting for Democrats to win elections by adopting
more reasonable positions. Readers may recall that last September Mr. Barro reasonably observed that he’s “a little baffled by something Democrats may be about to do in Texas, which is nominate a Senate candidate who got up in front of cameras a few years ago and declared that ‘God is non-binary.’” Mr. Barro reported that Mr. Talarico was arguing “against legislation that would have set a (widely popular) restriction limiting girls’ sports at schools in the state to female participants.” Mr. Barro continued: At the 2021 hearing, Talarico offered a bunch of ideas about how both science and scripture cut against such a rule. “Modern science obviously recognizes that there are many more than two biological sexes,” he declared. “In fact, there are six.” In fact, Mr. Barro reported last year that the candidate retreated when pressed to explain this nonsense and acknowledged there are two sexes. But Mr. Barro cited a larger issue that Democrats have been reluctant to address:
