Happy Friday Fox Mill Families,

We wrapped up Read Across America with a delightful assembly today featuring bestselling and award-winning author Megan Wagner Lloyd! Students, cozily dressed in their pajamas, were captivated as she shared her journey as a writer, the inspiration behind her stories, and encouraged everyone to explore their own creativity. It was a fun and inspiring experience that sparked a love of reading and writing across our school.

Read Across America Week

We had a great week of reading at Fox Mill! Grades 3–6 finished the week with an author presentation by Megan Lloyd Webber. Unfortunately, the presentation for grades K–2 has been rescheduled for March 24th.

We would like to give a special thank you to Mr. Moose, Ms. Denton, the Fox Mill PTA, and the Fox Mill Library for helping make this week so special for our students.

If your student would still like to order a book, please see the link below. The link will remain open for one more week.

Families may order directly from the Fox Mill Elementary page on the Scrawl Books website (located under the “Author Visit” section) and select school delivery at checkout. During checkout, they will complete a form that includes their child’s name and teacher’s name to help with easy distribution. Families may also include personalization requests for the author.

A FEW UPDATES

Hard to believe that our fifth graders will take their first SOL test for the 2025- 2026 school year, on Wednesday, March 11th. The IRW requires students to have a fully charged laptop as well as the chargers given to them by our Technology department. Please remind students to take these to school in preparation for the assessment.

SPRING PICTURE DAY

Individual and class pictures will be taken on March 11th.  Families will receive separate order envelopes for individual and class pictures.  You may order pictures using the envelopes or order from Strawbridge Studios online.

If your student is in 6th grade you will also receive a separate order form for a panoramic picture of all 6th grade students.

Tornado Drill

Schools in FCPS are required to conduct one tornado drill each school year during the month of March. Over the next week, teachers will help students locate and review the designated shelter areas within the school in preparation for our scheduled tornado drill.

Fairfax County Health Department Measles Update

Measles is a highly contagious virus that infects 9 out of 10 people who are exposed, if unvaccinated or not immune. It has been in the news lately due to cases in Northern Virginia and among people who have traveled through local airports.

If your spring break or summer plans include traveling abroad or to an area in the United States with high measles activity, the Fairfax County Health Department encourages you to ensure your family is protected. Children 12 months and older should have 1 or 2 doses before traveling. Depending on your specific travel plans, your health care provider may also advise you to vaccinate infants 6 to 11 months old. Community Conversations: Share Your Thoughts With Dr. Reid

As a listening leader, connecting with community members across our school division is critical to FCPS Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid. Her Community Conversations are opportunities for you to share your thoughts and ask questions. Events will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. (unless otherwise noted) on:

Click on a date to register to attend that event. Registration is not required, but helps with planning, especially for child care and interpretation services. Events are open to all. Visit the superintendent’s engagement page for the most up-to-date information.
