A group of oil-consuming countries said on Wednesday that it would release a record 400m barrels of reserves to try to stabilise oil prices. There are no strategic reserves, however, of liquefied natural gas, the price of which has ballooned on world markets. QatarEnergy—a massive producer—shut down its LNG production and export facilities last week. Alternative supplies are scarce, and countries are scrambling to respond.
