Tourism Research Australia (TRA) has released its annual report on tourism businesses in Australia.
This report provides details on the number and characteristics of tourism-related businesses and trends observed over the past 5 years.
Some headline figures from the report include:
- Australia had 361,270 tourism-related businesses in June 2025, a record high
- Approximately 1 in 8 (13.2%) of all Australian businesses are tourism-related
- The number of tourism-related businesses has grown by 8% over the past 5 years
- The majority (95%) of tourism-related businesses are small businesses, with under 20 employees
- 30% of tourism-related businesses are in regional Australia, providing an important economic driver for regional economies.
