A new Stanford University report finds that despite schools' rapid adoption of AI, there is limited rigorous evidence demonstrating its efficacy in transforming education. Look for tools that help students with reasoning rather than providing answers, the researchers advise. "There are certainly ways that students can be cognitively engaged when using an AI tool, but it's not a given. It needs to be designed into the tool," says Lily Fesler of the AI Hub for Education at Stanford University and the report's co-author.

Colleges and universities are rethinking their teaching methods as AI becomes a dominant tool for students. Flagler College, for example, has seen a decline in tutoring requests since the introduction of ChatGPT in 2023.
