Even if you’re not normally a video watcher, you’ll want to watch this one. My good friend Kim Scheppele walks us through what’s happening in Hungary ahead of the election next Sunday. Also, how incredibly important it is to be aware of what’s happening there to better understand the risks to our own upcoming election.
That might not seem intuitive. But Kim goes into detail to explain the interconnection. She is a Hungary expert. She spent time there, helping to develop democratic systems as that country was emerging from Soviet domination. She also watched Viktor Orbán reverse that progress, and her discussion of that process will sound familiar to anyone with even passing familiarity with Trump’s efforts to corrupt our democracy. Kim details the ties between Orbán and MAGA conservatism, including institutions like the Heritage Foundation.
This was a fascinating conversation and a must listen for anyone who is serious about protecting our own country. We ended it by discussing concrete steps each of us can, indeed must take, in the run-up to our own elections. Watch and please share widely.
