House proposes ban on social media use for children under 14 in Mass.

The Massachusetts House of Representatives is proposing a ban on social media use for all children under the age of 14.

Live updates: Iran rejects ceasefire deal as Trump's deadline for attacks on infrastructure nears

Iran rejected a 45-day ceasefire proposal and said it wants a permanent end to the war as U.S. President Donald Trump’s ultimatum to make a deal ticked closer with an expanded threat of strikes against the Islamic Republic to include all power plants and bridges.

Trump said Monday he is “not at all” concerned about committing possible war crimes as he again threatened to destroy Iranian infrastructure if Tehran does not meet his Tuesday 8 p.m. EST deadline to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres warned the U.S. that attacking civilian infrastructure is banned under international law, his spokesperson said Monday.

Light snow expected Tuesday in parts of New England

Fair warning: A few snowflakes may fly today. They’ll mix with the rain showers at times, but don’t let it get in your head. We’re not expecting any accumulation, but on the slimmest of chances that we put together an hour’s worth of snow in the higher elevations of Mass., or New Hampshire, we may get a ground coating in spots.

Roads will remain snow-free, however. This is also limited to the first few hours of the day. Later on, the temperatures will climb to the mid-40s, and any precipitation will fall as rain.

This weak weather system will lift out tonight, allowing for a hard freeze in all towns and cities. With full sun we’ll recover to the low and mid-40s tomorrow, but no more. Chilly sea breezes will keep the temps in check all afternoon. We won’t turn the corner until we get to Thursday when we rise into the mid-50s and then surge to the 60s by Friday and the weekend.

New evidence strengthens case against ex-officer in Sandra Birchmore death, feds say

New DNA evidence ties the former police officer accused of killing Sandra Birchmore and staging it as a suicide to the alleged murder weapon, federal prosecutors said Monday, arguing he shouldn’t be released before trial.

Attorneys for Matthew Farwell, charged in the death of the 23-year-old whom he’s also accused of grooming since she was underage, had sought to have their client released on bail, saying it had been found that he is not the father of Birchmore’s unborn son.

But prosecutors said in their reply, filed in federal court Monday, that their evidence connecting him to the allegations has only gotten stronger since he was first charged, saying that DNA found at the scene now connects him to the strap that killed Birchmore and that more information has come to light about their sexual relationship when she was just 15 years old and the lengths he went to hide it.
