From the Mailbag: When Will my Bus Stop Reopen?
On Columbia Pike, crews are still working on shelters and some stops are still in their temporary locations from the days of heavy construction. Some transit shelters may look finished, but are not yet open.
Shelters will reopen at their permanent location in coordination between Arlington Transit and WMATA.
See the full list of Columbia Pike bus stops under construction, where to catch your bus, and how to sign up for ART Alerts on the Columbia Pike Transit Stations project page.
ART Bus Timing Adjustments
Starting on Sunday, April 12, ART routes 41, 45, and 87 will experience minor timing adjustments to help improve on-time performance.
Join Arlington County staff in celebrating the reopening of Columbia Pike and completion of road work on Wednesday, April 15, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Penrose Square.
True to the multimodal nature of the project, the event is accessible by bus or on foot. Garage parking is available nearby.
Can't make it? Come see the Columbia Pike Forward team at Culture Fest, hosted by the Columbia Pike Partnership, on Saturday, April 18.
Traffic Switch on S. Walter Reed Dr. is Live
Crews have shifted to working on the east side of the intersection of South Walter Reed Drive and 9th Street South.
The following traffic pattern at the intersection of South Walter Reed Drive and 9th Street South is in effect through late July or August of 2026, as weather allows:
The northbound lanes of South Walter Reed Drive are closed; all traffic flows on the southbound lanes
The southbound bus stop at 9th Street South has moved south to 9th Road South
The northbound bus stop at 9th Street South is closed; use adjacent bus stops for northbound travel
One lane in each direction on 9th Street South
Parking open on 9th Road South
All sidewalks and crosswalks will remain open
This work is in service of the South Walter Reed Drive Complete Street project. After the intersection is reconfigured and a four-way traffic signal is added, the project will move on to reconstructing South Walter Reed Drive between 5th Street South and Columbia Pike.
