Your Story Starts Here
Kings Park Families,
It was a pleasure to welcome students back into the building today following spring break. Students were eager to reconnect with their teachers and classmates, quickly reengaging in classroom learning and routines. It’s hard to believe we’re already starting the fourth and final quarter of the school year. Our focus remains on ensuring all students feel safe, supported, and ready to learn as we build instructional momentum and support strong academic progress.
April is the Month of the Military Child! Every year we take the opportunity to recognize military-connected youth for their service and contribution to our community. Fairfax County Public Schools is proud to have over 14,000 military-connected youth as a part of our student body, including many students in the Kings Park community. We appreciate the varied life experiences they bring to our school community and recognize their strength and resilience. We are so proud of our Kings Park ES military students!
April is also School Library Month. In FCPS libraries, students develop knowledge and skills, experience a sense of belonging, find inspiration and support, and have the ability to freely pursue their personal interests and academic growth. We hope to see you at the Kings Park library later this month for the book fair and STEAM, Strategies Lab, and Library Open Houses. See below for details.
As a reminder, there is no school for students this Friday, April 10th, due to a school planning day.

Please join us in our Purple Up! Spirit Week!
To recognize and honor our Kings Park ES military students, we are inviting all Kings Park ES students, families, school employees, and community members to “Purple Up!” on April 15. Why purple? Purple symbolizes all branches of the military as a combination of Army green, Marine Corps red, Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force, and Space Force blue. We appreciate the service of our KP students from military families and celebrate them by wearing purple to say, “Thank You!”
-
Monday, April 13th - Dress in colors of your favorite branch of the military

We are seeking volunteers to help students create wish lists and help make purchases. If you are interested in volunteering please sign up using our sign up genius. We are looking forward to another great fair.
Lake Braddock Pyramid Art Show - Wednesday, April 8th, 6:00pm-8:00pm
Join us tomorrow evening - Wednesday, April 8th - between 6pm and 8pm at the Lake Braddock Pyramid Art Show! The show will take place in the Lake Braddock Secondary School gym. This event celebrates student artwork from across our pyramid and gives students an exciting preview of the creative skills they can develop throughout their FCPS education. Kings Park will have almost 90 pieces on display, featuring artists in Kindergarten through 3rd grade. These students have already received their certificates, and are so excited to share their work. Your student does not need to have a piece in the show to attend - friends and family are welcome. In addition to amazing art work there will be activities, music, and food trucks.
Early Release Wednesday, April 22nd, CANCELLED
Tuesday, April 21, is now a teacher workday and staff development day because of a recently announced special election that will impact all FCPS schools.
Students will now have a traditional full day of instruction and be released at the regular dismissal time on April 22nd, which was previously an early release Wednesday for Kings Park students.
This adjustment allows our staff to still have dedicated time for planning, collaboration, and professional learning without reducing instructional time on other school days.

Meet Me at the Library – April 29th
Join us for an evening of musical fun at the Kings Park Public Library (9000 Burke Lake Road) on April 29th from 5:00-6:00 PM. Mrs. Jordan and Mrs. Cunningham will be leading our event filled with rhythms, creativity, and literacy. We are partnering with WETA and all students attending will receive a book to take home. Come join some KPES staff for this hour-long event. And don’t forget your dancing shoes. Hope to see you there!
Family Input for Class Placements 2026-2027
As we begin to plan for the 2026-2027 school year, we are inviting your input. Creating class assignments requires careful consideration and the involvement of many perspectives. We know a good teacher-student match and a productive mix of children are ingredients for success. Should you have additional information about your specific child that school staff may not know, particularly regarding learning style and classroom environment; we ask that you please complete the Family Input Form no later than Monday, May 4th, 2026. If you have more than one child attending KPES, please complete one form per child.
We ask that you do not request specific teachers or friendship pairings and keep the information shared about your child and the type of learning environment you feel would be the most productive for him/her/them. We assure you that with or without a form, each child’s strengths and needs are considered. As in the past, families will receive class placement notification just prior to school starting.
Educate Fairfax Student Bookmark Art Contest – “Today’s Reader, Tomorrow’s Leader”
Submission Deadline: April 17th
Educate Fairfax, the 501(c)3 education foundation that partners with the community to support Fairfax County Public Schools students and educators, is launching a divisionwide Student Bookmark Art Contest. FCPS students in grades K–12 are invited to design a 2” x 7” bookmark celebrating the power of learning and creativity under the theme “Today’s Reader, Tomorrow’s Leader.”
Artwork must be original, flat (no glitter or pop-ups), and include the student’s name, grade, and school on the back. Entries will be judged on creativity, connection to the theme, and overall effort. Four winners (K–2, 3–6, middle, and high) will each receive a $25 gift card, and winning designs will be printed and shared in schools and the community.
Submissions may be mailed to Educate Fairfax (8270 Willow Oaks Corporate Drive, Fairfax, VA 22031) or emailed to info@educatefairfax.org by April 17. By submitting, students confirm FCPS enrollment and grant permission for printing and promotion (first name and grade only; parent/guardian signature required for winners).
