After the drawn-out strike that essentially shut down Hollywood in 2023, there’s a bit of anxiety in the air as the industry faces a new round of contract negotiations. But there might be cause for optimism after the Writers Guild of America reached a four-year deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers on Saturday, a month before their contract was set to expire. However, the Directors Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA are still in the midst of negotiations and facing looming deadlines at the end of June. VF’s Maxwell Adler spoke with industry insiders—including producers at major production companies and members of the writers’ and actors’ unions—to get a sense of what’s on the table and where things stand.
