It’s time to sing the
praises of Canadian film.
This year alone, this country has delivered five movies that have crossed the $300,000 mark at the domestic box office, with more on the horizon. And while that’s puny compared to the earnings coming out of the U.S., this fresh run of homegrown hits is a welcome surprise for industry watchers. What’s more, writes film critic Barry Hertz, these five films offer a helpful guide to how to get it right in the film world in Canada. And if we want to be watching and telling our own stories, on our own terms, it’s worth paying attention.
