  • With less than 2 percentage points splitting the difference and many ballots left to count, the outcome for the two Anchorage School District ballot proposals remains unclear.

  • A jury found a former Alaska resident guilty of manslaughter in the death of his missing North Pole roommate before, prosecutors say, he fled to Oregon using the stolen identity of a friend he later killed to protect his deception.

  • Alaska Airlines is increasing checked bag fees for many customers amid "ongoing volatility in fuel prices and an uncertain global environment," the carrier said.

Now hurtling back to earth after their trip around the moon, the crew of NASA's Artemis II mission took the time to bestow a lunar feature with a deeply personal name. The astronauts asked permission to name a small crater on the moon's surface Carroll, after Commander Reid Wiseman's late wife. It's sunny today with a high around 43 degrees, but the forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies and a chance of rain on Friday. Daytime highs will continue to hover in the low 40s for the next several days.

Prosecutors say a 37-year-old man killed John McClelland in North Pole, then fled to Anchorage and then Oregon, where he is accused of killing an acquaintance whose identity he had stolen to evade questions about McClelland's disappearance.

The changes won't apply to members of the Club 49 program for Alaska residents. Members will still get three bags free for in-state flights, and two when traveling to or from the state.
