If you believe in the 1st Amendment, you understand how critical independent journalism has become. Scott MacFarlane has been one of my favorite journalists ever since I met him when he was at NBC4 in Washington, D.C. I followed him when he went over to CBS in 2021. Recently, he resigned without fanfare and announced he was going independent. He’s writing one of the hottest new Substacks, Scott MacFarlane, and if you’re not reading him, you’re missing out! When Scott asked me to join him for a Substack Live this morning to give some analysis to go along with the news, we didn’t fully anticipate what a crazy morning it would be! We started with Trump’s overnight social media frenzy, discussed Eric Swalwell’s situation (and had a great discussion of due process rights in criminal proceedings, and the difference in political ones), Pam Bondi’s failure to testify this week despite getting a subpoena, and more. I really appreciated the chance to start my week with a very engaged audience and with Scott, who asks all of the right questions to dig into a situation and enhance our understanding of it.
