This week's top story in our newsletter is a good illustration of the importance of balanced reporting.
Plans to build transmission lines across agricultural land in western Victoria have proven controversial, and much of the reporting has been focused on those opposed to the projects.
But it's interesting to note that not all landowners are opposed — about 40 per cent aren't, in fact.
With that in mind, we spoke to one of those farmers in the 40 per cent, while also balancing out the story with concerns from those opposed.
Something I've noticed over many years as a reporter is that people tend to be louder when they oppose something, and quieter when they support it, but that doesn't mean you ignore the quiet side, especially when it's a majority, or close to it.
