The Echoes of San Jacinto
On April 21, 1836, shouts of "Remember the Alamo! Remember La Bahia! Crockett! Travis! Fannin!" echoed across the battlefield of San Jacinto. The outnumbered Texans fought for their massacred brothers and friends, they fought for their families, and in 18 decisive minutes, they won the freedom that is enjoyed by millions today.
We invite you to visit the San Jacinto Battlefield Celebrations this weekend, and when you are next at the Taste of Texas, look for Robert Eden Handy's Rifle fired throughout the battle, see the famous scrawls of General Sam Houston, Tejano hero Lorenzo de Zavala, calvary commander Mirabeau B. Lamar, and Robert McAlpin Williamson. In the darkest days of the revolution, these heroes engineered what is widely regarded as one of the most important military victories in world history. It is our task to keep their shouts of freedom alive. Remember the Alamo, Remember Goliad.... Remember San Jacinto.
