Principal's Message
Hello Bruin Community!
Next week is our Stress Less Spirit Week sponsored by our SGA, as a way to get ready for testing season. We hope to see our students participating along with our staff.
Please note our schedule change on April 23 for the Spring Pep Rally. 2nd and 8th periods are flipped that day. If you plan to pick your student up early that day, please remember to send in a note first thing in the morning. This will help us expedite their release at the requested time.
Our first SOL exam is on April 29 (Reading), followed by May 1 (Math) and May 7 (Science). We have a different bell schedule on those days to accommodate the additional time needed. The full testing calendar is shared below in the Testing Information Section.
Go Bruins!

Community Conversations: Share Your Thoughts With Dr. Reid
As a listening leader, connecting with community members across our school division is critical to FCPS Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid. Her Community Conversations are opportunities for you to share your thoughts and ask questions. Events will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on:
Click on a date to register to attend that event. Registration is not required, but it helps with planning, especially for child care and interpretation services. Events are open to all. Visit the superintendent’s engagement page for the most up-to-date information.
Important Reminders
April Pep Rally
Looking ahead to April, we originally had scheduled the Spring Pep Rally for April 17. We have had to change that date to Thursday, April 23. Please note that 2nd and 8th periods will be flipped that day.
SGA's Mental Health Campaign is hosting its first ever art competition! Submissions of mental health related art are due May 1st and three submissions will receive up to $100 in a gift card prize. In a world of more than 8 billion people, over 1 billion are impacted by mental illness. Mental illness means many different things to different people, and it is important that we as future leaders are understanding of other people’s unique experiences. As more and more people become impacted by mental health struggles, it is crucial to acknowledge and support the people around us. Resources are becoming more available around the world but still approximately 1 in 7 people will struggle with mental illness throughout their lifetime. The ideas surrounding mental illness create a stigma that discourages people from sharing their stories. This competition is an opportunity to learn more about mental illness and create a work of art that represents what it means to you.

Testing Information
Spring Testing
Hello Families! We want to set our students up for success on their upcoming SOLs. To help everything go smoothly, please ensure your student brings both their Chromebook and charger for all testing dates.
Important Note: The testing and technology offices do not have spare chargers to lend to students. Please double-check their backpacks on testing mornings to make sure they have exactly what they need. Chargers can be paid for via MySchoolBucks or the Finance office for $29 and obtained in the tech office prior to their testing day. We appreciate your help!
The Spring Testing will begin April 29. All-important testing information and the testing calendar can be found on the Lake Braddock Testing Website. Please note important dates your student may be testing and make every attempt to avoid testing interruptions.
High School students do not take every SOL therefore emails will be sent to students providing non testing students with their study hall locations for April 29, May 1 and May 7. Please be on the lookout for those emails.
If you have specific questions about testing, please reach out to your student’s counselor or subject specific teacher.
AP Exam Volunteers Needed! We need you!
This year, we will give around 3,200 AP Exams at Lake Braddock and we need your help! We are searching for volunteers to support our staff and serve as testing room monitors between May 4 and May 15.

- Volunteers can be any responsible adult who is not actively employed by a tutoring or test preparation company.
- Volunteers who are current, former, or retired teachers should not sign up for a subject they are teaching or have taught.
- Volunteers should not sign up for an exam if any family member will take that exam this year.
Please use this link: https://fcps.samaritan.com/custom/501/opp_details/3480 to register as a volunteer and use the sign up sheet in the link to select as many time slots as you can. More details about the time commitment and responsibilities are available on the sign-up page.
