Good Afternoon Cedar Lane Community!
This past Wednesday, our halls and grounds were filled with energy and purpose during the Madison Pyramid Day of Service. It was truly inspiring to see our students and staff working side-by-side to give back. From the physical work of beautifying our Cedar Lane grounds to the thoughtful creation of educational flashcards and supportive letters to our veterans, the impact was felt across the building.
If you happen to be at a school in the Madison Pyramid, keep an eye out for the beautifully painted rocks featuring inspiring messages from our students and staff! Thank you to everyone who participated in making this day a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we serve together.
Please take note of an important adjustment to next week’s schedule: There will be no school for students next Tuesday, April 21st, due to the statewide election. We look forward to seeing everyone back in the building on Wednesday!
Speaking of Wednesday, please be sure to check out the information below regarding our upcoming "Taste of Cedar Lane" event this Wednesday, April 22nd. We invite you to come to the Cedar Lane Cafeteria from 6-7:30 PM to celebrate the diverse cultures and traditions that help to make Cedar Lane a unique place to be. We hope to see you there!
As we move further into the fourth quarter, we are also approaching our state assessment period. The SOL testing window will officially open next week. These assessments are an opportunity for our students to showcase the incredible growth they have made throughout the year.
To help our students feel prepared and confident, we encourage families to ensure they get plenty of rest and a healthy breakfast on testing days. We have full confidence in our students and can't wait to see their hard work pay off!
In the spirit of service and excellence,
The Staff of Cedar Lane School

Support Your Children During Important Spring Assessments
Students will be participating in spring assessments based on their grade level and courses. This includes summative assessments like Standards of Learning (SOL) tests, which measure what a student knows, and progress assessments like Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tests, which measure where they are in their learning.
FCPS encourages all families to support their students in taking these tests. Virginia requires schools to test at least 95% of students on SOLs, so when families choose not to participate in testing, it can impact a school’s accreditation, accountability ratings, and ability to measure student progress accurately.
Parents and caregivers can help their children perform their best on these tests by reminding them to get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and the cell phone policy still applies during testing season.
It is important that students attend school on scheduled testing dates. If you are aware of a conflict that may cause your student to miss a test, please notify your student’s school as soon as possible.
