Our 6th graders recently visited the National Gallery of Art Museum in Washington D.C.

Hello MUES Families,

Spring is in the air! Not only are the temperatures getting warmer, but the pollen count is getting higher. During this time of the year, it is normal for students to experience seasonal allergies with symptoms that may be similar to a common cold- watery eyes, stuffiness, itchy nose, and congestion. Unless your Mustang is running a fever, please send them to school. It is also important to ensure that your Mustang stays hydrated when the temperatures are warmer as they will go outside for recess and, at times, during PE class. Because many students have the same water bottle, please make sure that your Mustang writes their name on their personal water bottle.

This week we began MAP testing to measure students math growth over the span of this school year. These results will be available for families to review in ParentVUE later on this spring. Classroom teachers are also spending time developing plans for their upcoming SOL review time with students. There may be homework activities shared with your Mustang on Schoology or SOL Pass activities that they will be assigned to complete. We appreciate your partnership making sure that your Mustang is prepared to do their very best on their upcoming grade level SOL assessments.

Don't forget that schools are closed for all students in FCPS due to a state-wide special election on Tuesday, April 21st.

Have a great weekend, Mustang Family!

Your Proud Principal,

Mrs. Goddin

Support Your Children During Important Spring Assessments

Students will be participating in spring assessments based on their grade level and courses. This includes summative assessments like Standards of Learning (SOL) tests, which measure what a student knows, and progress assessments like Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tests, which measure where they are in their learning.

FCPS encourages all families to support their students in taking these tests. Virginia requires schools to test at least 95% of students on SOLs, so when families choose not to participate in testing, it can impact a school’s accreditation, accountability ratings, and ability to measure student progress accurately.

Parents and caregivers can help their children perform their best on these tests by reminding them to get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and the cell phone policy still applies during testing season.

It is important that students attend school on scheduled testing dates. If you are aware of a conflict that may cause your student to miss a test, please notify your student’s school as soon as possible.
