Dear Floris Families,
Due to the recent boundary adjustment and our continued increase in enrollment, Floris Elementary School qualifies for an additional Assistant Principal position for the 2026–2027 school year. It is with great excitement that we welcome Ms. Resheeda Hinkson to our Floris Elementary School family as our newest Assistant Principal, joining me and Mr. Gibbs on our admin team.
Ms. Hinkson brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to student success. She joined Fairfax County Public Schools in 2019, most recently serving as an Assistant Principal at Coates Elementary School for the past three years. During her tenure at Coates, she served as the administrator for grades 4–6, the Special Education department, and the Specialist team. Using her extensive knowledge of curriculum and instruction, she has been a dedicated coach to her teams, focusing on content mastery, differentiation, and closing achievement gaps.
Prior to joining FCPS, Ms. Hinkson spent 14 years with District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS). Her diverse leadership background includes roles as a Middle School Assistant Principal, Special Education Coordinator, and Summer School Principal, as well as several years as a classroom teacher.
Ms. Hinkson is a lifelong learner. She holds a Master of Arts in Special Education and a Master of Science in Educational Leadership Administration from Trinity Washington University. She is also currently pursuing her Doctorate in Special Education from Walden University. Her academic background is further supported by a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a Master’s in Legal and Ethical Studies.
Guided by the principle that "it takes a village to raise a child," Ms. Hinkson is passionate about developing a school culture where students, families, and teachers feel safe, loved, and welcomed.
Originally from St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Ms. Hinkson now resides in Herndon. In her spare time, she enjoys swimming, skiing, traveling, and walking her family dog, Donut.
Please join me in giving Ms. Hinkson a warm Floris welcome! Ms. Hinkson will transition to Floris on July 15th.
Sincerely,
Joshua DeSmyter
Principal
