Recurring Irving MS News

Library News:

Battle of the books

We are so proud of our group of ten students who represented Irving MS in the countywide Battle of the Books competition.  Abigail, Edu, Evelyn, Eleni, Gabby, Hadley, Josephine, Katherine, Mateo, and Sipara worked together and represented Irving well.  The team was responsible for reading a pre-selected group of fifteen books.  The competition involved their recall of each book’s content, requiring them to answer detailed questions and identify quotes.  Here is a picture of the team along with our roving Irving mascot, The Headless Horseman.

In other news, all 7th grade classes visited the library this week to borrow a fiction book for an upcoming book project.  Parents can help their children get a good start in reading by asking them about the title, or even taking turns reading aloud together until you reach the book’s first “cliff hanger.”  We always advise students to start reading as soon as they borrow their book in case they discover that they don’t like the book they chose; as long as they have time before the project’s due, they can always get another book to read.
