Yesterday, I wrote out a short piece laying out the basics of the Live Nation/Ticket Master antitrust litigation to bring everyone up to speed before this morning’s conversation with California Attorney General Rob Bonta. (I know none of my fellow Swifties who were shut out from buying Eras Tour tickets needed this, but it’s for the rest of you!) Normally, you’d expect to see the Justice Department involved in a high end piece of antitrust litigation, but not here, and the explanation we get from someone who was involved in what happened is fascinating. I really enjoyed our conversation. California’s Attorney General doesn’t believe in sugarcoating reality, and offers a straightforward explanation of what happened, how DOJ abandoned the state attorneys general, and what comes next. But I didn’t walk away feeling depressed. I appreciated how Bonta peeled back the curtain and explained the blue state AGs’ view of this moment, when they and we can no longer count on DOJ to protect Americans. Our conversation is part civics lesson and part shot in the arm. I encourage you to watch if you missed us live—there’s a lot of important information packed into 20 minutes and Bonta manages to make antitrust easy to understand. It was a pleasure to spend time with him, we’ll definitely have him back soon. We’re in this together, Joyce You're currently a free subscriber to Civil Discourse with Joyce Vance .
