Blueprints
The book printing industry’s adoption of digitization and AI could soon
overhaul a manufacturing process that has largely stayed the same for years, according to a new report from the Book Manufacturers’ Institute. Several state legislatures are
revising bills that would remove certain books from public schools and libraries in response to outcry from freedom to read advocates. And the Book Industry Charitable Foundation, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, is
holding its first-ever gala in New York City next month. In other news, Amazon has made a deal to
host Oprah Winfrey’s podcast and help promote her book club, reports the
New York Times. In the U.K., TikTok unveiled its first monthly
BookTok bestsellers list, which combines engagement metrics and verified retail sales, per the
Bookseller. Also via the
Bookseller,
former HarperCollins U.K. CEO Charlie Redmayne has been tapped to head up
indie publisher and tech company Vinci Books. A series adaptation of
Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus’s The Nanny Diaries is underway at Netflix, with Scarlett Johansson set to produce,
Deadline reports. Free children’s and adult books are hitting the shelves at
some bodegas in the Bronx as part of a literacy effort led by two local teachers, per the
New York Post. And on Substack, author Lincoln Michel breaks down the different metrics used to
measure a new book’s sales performance.

Book Manufacturing Could Soon See Major ChangesThe increasing acceptance of digital printing by publishers and the use of AI tools by printers could “shift the tides on how the industry has operated for decades,” according to a new report by the Book Manufacturers’ Institute.
