Roadrunner Rundown

April 27, 2026

Principal's Message

Dear Marshall Road Families,

We hope you can join us for the Alice in Wonderland performance tonight or tomorrow evening at 7:00 pm. Guests can enter the school starting at 6:15 pm and will wait in the cafeteria until the gym doors open at 6:40 pm. Our younger students (Pre-K, K, 1st and 2nd) attended the performance this morning and thoroughly enjoyed the show. Students in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grades will attend tomorrow. We are very proud of our 5th and 6th grade students who have worked so hard on this performance.

Last week we shared the process for making student homeroom placements for next school year. Your input is optional but if you have information to share about your child that will assist us, please complete this Class Placement Form no later than Friday, May 8. Please know that this is a hard deadline. Any requests received after this date will not be considered.

Have a great week!

Consistency Matters

The school year is a marathon and we are closing in on the final parts of this race. Let’s keep going strong as we approach the finish line. This is an important life skill, that our students learn the importance of committing oneself and following through-even when they would prefer a vacation, which is also coming soon!  We can build on this into junior high, high school and adulthood.

Yearbook Sales - Preorder Deadline is this Friday, May 1st

Yearbook sales have begun, and pre-orders will be accepted through this Friday, May 1. Online orders can be placed using this Yearbook Order Form. If you would prefer to pay $20.00 by cash or check, make checks payable to Marshall Road Elementary School, place cash or check in an envelope and write your child’s name, teacher name and YEARBOOK on the envelope. Each yearbook is packed with candid photos, memories of the 2025-2026 school year, staff photos and individual photos of each student by grade level. There will be a limited number of yearbooks available for purchase after all the prepaid orders are distributed during the last week of school.

Spring Pictures

Spring pictures are now online. E-proofs have been delivered to your email inbox. Please be sure to check your spam. All orders will receive free shipping if placed by May 11. For questions about orders, please email underclass@vosphoto.com.

PTA Update

Wait Until 8th: A Pledge to Delay Smartphones

Over 115,000 families across the country have already joined the growing Wait Until 8th movement. We would like to invite Marshall Road families to learn more about this initiative (https://www.waituntil8th.org/), which encourages families to work together to delay smartphones for children until the end of 8th grade. This is a community-based choice, and many families are finding support in connecting with others who share similar goals around healthy technology use.

Teacher Appreciation Week = Marshall World Cup!

Next week, May 4–8, we will celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week at Marshall Road with a fun-filled week of surprises and daily recognition planned by the PTA and volunteers. Thanks to our successful Runathon and Readathon, we are not requesting parent donations this year. Instead, families can take part by completing a “Trading Card” for their teacher and checking the student schedule for participation details. We’re excited to celebrate and show appreciation for all our incredible Marshall Road staff! If you’d like to get involved or have questions, please reach out to Lisa at Lisabrinch@gmail.com.

Bike Train

Empty the Bus & Kiss+Ride Line!

Let’s work together to empty the bus and Kiss+Ride line on Tuesday, May 5th—start planning now to join the fun! You can join the bike train, walking bus, or runners at any point along the route—just hop in and come along for the fun! The class with the most participants will win the “Roadrunner Golden Shoe!” Breakfast will be waiting for you on the blacktop at 8:30 AM. We also need volunteers to help get breakfast ready—if you’re available to lend a hand, we would truly appreciate your support! Come walk, roll, or run with us and start the morning the Roadrunner way!

Dining for Dollars at Silver Diner

Skip cooking and support Marshall Road Elementary School at the same time! Join us for our Run the Diner Fundraiser at Silver Diner Merrifield (8150 Porter Road, Falls Church) on Wednesday, May 6, 5:00–8:00 pm. Silver Diner will donate 20% of sales (based on number of attendees) back to MRES when you dine in or order to go. Ordering to-go? Use code Roadrunner0506 at checkout on SilverDiner.com or call 703-204-0812. Bring your family, invite friends, and help support our Roadrunners! Note: Orders placed through third-party delivery services do not count toward the fundraiser.

Staff Spotlight

Staff Spotlight

Hooray for Ms. Iqbal, one of our amazing Kindergarten Instructional Assistants, who snagged the PTA Priority Parking Spot this week! Ms. Iqbal has been at MRES for 9 years! She loves working with the kids and says “their smiles make every day enjoyable.” When she is not making Kindergarten magic, Ms. Iqbal enjoys home decorating, reading, and spending time with family. Fun facts: Ms. Iqbal loves trying new recipes from different cultures and she speaks more than two languages. We are so glad Ms. Iqbal is part of the Roadrunner team!

MTSS in SIS ParentVUE is Re-Enabled

Please be advised that as of April 6, the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) module in the Student Information System (SIS) ParentVUE has been re-enabled and is now fully operational. The central office MTSS team worked diligently to fix the data-entry issues which required the tool to be disabled while the data entry updates were being made. Parents can now access their child’s intervention goals and progress monitoring data via their ParentVUE account.
