Yeah, I finally got around to trying that sourdough starter my cousin gave me three months ago.
It was actually alive still, which surprised me. I fed it for a week and baked two loaves on Saturday.
The first one was a little flat but the second had a decent crumb and a nice crust.
I think I overproofed the first one by about an hour. The kitchen smelled amazing though.
My neighbor saw me taking photos of the bread and asked if I was starting a food blog.
I told her no, I just wanted to remember what worked.
She brought over some homemade jam and we ended up having toast together on the porch.
It was one of those slow summer afternoons where nothing urgent is happening and everything feels okay.
I might try a whole wheat version next time. Or maybe add some rosemary and sea salt.
The starter is sitting in my fridge right now waiting for round two.
I named it Gloria. Gloria the starter. It makes me laugh every time I open the jar.

I finished that book my sister lent me — the one about the botanist who travels to South America in the 1800s.
