I think the best approach for the garden layout would be to start by mapping out the sunlight patterns across your yard throughout the day before deciding where to place each raised bed. Most vegetables need at least six hours of direct sun so positioning the beds along the south side of your property will give you the most consistent light. For tomatoes and peppers they really benefit from the extra heat that comes from being against a south facing wall. The soil preparation is just as important as location mixing in aged compost about three weeks before planting gives the nutrients time to integrate. You will also want to check the drainage by digging a small hole and filling it with water if it drains within an hour you are in good shape. Starting with transplants rather than seeds will give you a head start on the growing season and reduce the amount of watering needed initially.

The soil needs to be worked at least eight inches deep for most vegetables and mixing in compost beforehand really helps with drainage and nutrients. Watering deeply but less frequently encourages roots to grow deeper and makes plants more resilient during dry spells. I usually check the soil moisture by sticking my finger about an inch in if it feels dry then it is time to water. Morning watering is best because it gives leaves time to dry before evening which reduces fungal issues. For tomatoes you will want to remove the lower leaves once the plants are about two feet tall to improve air circulation around the base of the plant. Staking or caging them early prevents root disturbance later in the season.
