Read today's e-Newspaper

Good Wednesday morning. And cloudy one, too (high of 86, low of 71).

In today’s edition, read about columnist Stephanie Hayes sharing how to get out of a reading rut; Florida’s wildlife agency voting on the capture of giant manta rays; and where our Food Hub recommends going for good eats.

Florida’s new congressional map splits up Black voters in Tampa Bay

After a mid-cycle redistricting push to solidify Republican rule in Congress, Black voters in Tampa Bay find themselves splintered into five sprawling districts.

East Tampa will share a representative with the upper reaches of Citrus County, more than 90 miles northwest. Much of St. Petersburg’s Black community will be in the same district as Arcadia and Fort Meade, 75 miles east.

The change, local Black leaders say, dilutes Black voting power and threatens the region’s lone blue seat.

AROUND THE BAY

State policy in the spotlight: Last summer, a viral video in Panama City showed men hauling a giant manta ray — a federally threatened species — onto their boat in a net. It turns out the capture was legal. The wildlife agency will meet today to vote on new rules that will still allow the capture of giant manta rays for aquariums.
