CVS ExtraCare Reminder
I finally got around to trying that pasta recipe you shared last month. I used the fresh basil from my window box and it made a big difference in the overall flavor. The sauce came together really quickly once I had everything prepped and measured out. I added a pinch of red pepper flakes for some subtle warmth. Next time I might double the garlic because we really like it bold in our house. The pasta water was properly salted which helped season the whole dish from the inside out. I served it with a simple side salad dressed with lemon juice and olive oil. My family cleaned their plates which is always a good sign after trying something new. I'll send you a photo of the final dish later this week. Let me know if you have any other weeknight recipes that work well for busy schedules. I'm trying to build up a better rotation of meals that don't take too long after a full workday. The cleanup was pretty easy too which is always a bonus when you are tired.

I think the key was letting the sauce simmer just long enough to concentrate the flavors without reducing too much. I used a good quality olive oil at the end to finish it. The whole meal took about forty minutes from start to table.

I spent the weekend painting the hallway finally after putting it off for months. I picked a warm neutral color that shifts slightly in different light throughout the day. The prep work took longer than the actual painting as usual. I had to patch several small holes and sand down some rough spots from when we hung shelves last year. I used a low-sheen finish so it cleans up easily with just a damp cloth. The trim took nearly as long as the walls because I cut it in by hand rather than taping everything off. I found a technique where you lightly load the brush and it reduces drips significantly. The whole space feels brighter now even though the color is similar to what we had before. I still need to touch up around the light fixtures and switch plates.

Maybe next weekend I will finally get to those finishing details. The room smells like fresh paint but it should air out in another day or two. It is nice to have that project checked off the list and see the transformation.
