Our last Early Release Wednesday is May 20. An eNotify was sent out to all families which confirmed your student's plan at the 12:30 dismissal. If you did not receive your message or have any questions, please call the main office at (703) 914-6900. |
Friday, May 22 will be the last day for students to check out books for this school year. All library books are due on June 3. Please encourage your students to look for any missing library books at home, in the classroom, or in backpacks, etc. The more books we get back, the fewer books I have to replace with our library money, and the more books we will have in our library to share. Thank you so much for supporting our readers. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Lively. Thank you! |

As we enter the final weeks of the school year, Fairfax County Public Schools appreciates your continued partnership in supporting your child’s success. Regular attendance plays an important role in helping students stay engaged in learning, maintain connections with their teachers and peers, and finish the school year strong.
Attending school consistently also helps students build valuable habits such as responsibility, perseverance, and daily routines that support success both in and out of the classroom.
If your child needs to miss school, please remember to report the absence. Full-day absences can be reported in ParentVUE. Families may also report absences by calling the school attendance line or emailing the school-designated attendance address.
If your child is experiencing challenges that are affecting attendance, we are here to help. Please contact your child’s school so staff can partner with you to provide support and resources. Learn more about attendance resources.
Parklawn Elementary School is pleased to inform you of Bridge to Kindergarten, which is designed for students entering kindergarten next fall who have had little or no preschool experience. The program will focus on kindergarten routines, building relationships with peers, participating in games and activities, and becoming familiar with the school environment.
Our Bridge to Kindergarten students will attend Glen Forest Elementary School, Monday-Friday, July 6 to July 24 from 8:55am to 12:55pm. This program is free and bus transportation will be available from within our school boundaries.
Students will be given the opportunity to be invited to Bridge to Kindergarten when they are registered for kindergarten. If you have a rising kindergartener and have not yet registered, please be sure to call Parklawn on Monday morning to register and join the list for Bridge to Kindergarten.

We are already working on our plans for the 2026-2027 school year! Class placements are an essential component of learning and building community. If you have information that you would like us to consider as we determine placements, please share your input by answering a few questions completing the form at the following link: 2026-2027 Class Placement Input Form. We know that a good teacher-student match and a productive mix of children are ingredients for success, and we carefully consider each child’s strengths and needs during this process. Please do not request specific teachers, as this does not take into account the many variables we must take into consideration. It is far more valuable to share particular academic or behavioral information.
Completion of this form is optional. If you would like to provide input, you may use this online form by May 22, 2026. This is a hard deadline. Please know that input from forms turned in over the summer are difficult to honor since the grouping process has already started. Please fill out one form per child. Thank you! On Friday, May 8, Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid provided an update on the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 Budget. FCPS receives the majority of its funding from the Fairfax County Government and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The Fairfax County Government recently adopted its FY 2027 Budget, and at the funding levels provided, there is currently a $28 million budget gap. In addition, the state budget has not been finalized. At last Thursday's School Board meeting, the superintendent proposed adjustments that would balance the FCPS budget.
Read Dr. Reid’s message to the community for more information on the budget process and budget priorities.
