Message from the Principal
Dear Langley Families,
We wrapped up our AP testing last week. A big thank you to our parents and community members who helped us proctor exams. It takes a team effort to make it happen. We will be continuing with makeup AP and SOL testing over the next few weeks.
Please help me honor the hard work and dedication of its members by nominating a deserving recipient for one of our year-end school awards.
-
The Langley High School Difference Maker Award - Recognizes a staff member who ensures the success of their students by cultivating meaningful relationships. This person’s ability to connect, individualize, and differentiate their classroom and teaching experience is outstanding.
-
The Langley High School Volunteer of the Year Award - Recognizes a member of the Langley School community who has gone above and beyond in supporting Langley High School, its students, and/or staff.
Please Make your Nominations. HERE
I would also like to alert you to the upcoming changes to the FCPS Cell phone policy. Now would be a great time to begin talking with your students about the changes for next school year. Details are below. The change for us is that phones and all accessories are not permitted during the school day (including lunch).
I further encourage families and students to discuss and prepare to leave all other devices (personal laptops, iPads, etc.) at home at the start of the new school year and commit to using the school-issued laptop as their “work” device at school.
Thank you,
Principal Stroud
New Cellphone Policy Starts July 1
On Thursday, May 7, the Fairfax County School Board approved changes to the FCPS Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R). The approved changes include updated guidance for cellphone possession and use, to align the FCPS cellphone policy with Senate Bill 108. This new Virginia law goes into effect on July 1 and states that all schools in the Commonwealth must follow a “bell-to-bell” phone-free policy.
This means that starting July 1, 2026, across all grade levels at FCPS, student cellphones, phone accessories, and all smart devices (including watches that serve a dual purpose, such as smart watches, as well as earbuds, headsets, smart glasses, and other items connected to the internet) must be off and personally stored (i.e., put away in backpacks) for the duration of the school day — thus, no cellphones from bell to bell.
High school students will no longer be able to use cellphones and personal devices during lunchtime. More details are available on the FCPS Cellphone Policy webpage.
FCPS Chromebook & Charger for Testing
As testing season approaches, it’s important to bring the required materials to your test! On the day of your SOL or digital AP exam, bring your fully charged FCPS Chromebook and charger. If you do not bring your Chromebook and charger, you may be unable to test. If you do not have an FCPS Chromebook checked out to you, go to the tech office before the day of your exam.
