3-Hour Early Release Wednesday This Week!

Our last Early Release Wednesday of the school year will be May 20. Students will be released three hours early that day at 1:05 p.m. We will offer supervised activities after school for those families with child-care hardship because of this Early Release scheduling.

To plan for our after-school groups this month, we will follow parent responses provided for the last Early Release in March. If you need to change your child’s plans from last month, please call the school office at 703-924-7700 as soon as possible and no later than noon tomorrow (Tuesday, May 19). You may also reach out via email to our family liaison Melanie Crosby Hardy at macrosby@fcps.edu.

If we do not hear from you, we will send your child home as previously directed.

More Schedule Changes Ahead Next Week!

memorial day graphic

Next week will be a very short week for students with only two days, Thursday and Friday.

Next Monday, May 25, is Memorial Day. School, the office, and SACC will be closed in honor of the brave members of the military our nation has lost.

Tuesday, May 26, is a Teacher Workday, which provides critical time for teachers to get started on end-of-the year planning and paperwork. Students do not report to school, but the office and SACC will be open.

Eid al-Adha

Wednesday, May 27, is also a holiday for all staff with school, the office, and SACC closed. It is Eid al-Adha, or the “Feast of Sacrifice,” the second of two main holidays celebrated in Islam. Muslims believe that Eid al-Adha signifies the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim, known as Abraham in Christianity and Judaism, to sacrifice his son, Ismail, as ordered by Allah. It focuses on sacrifice, the pilgrimage to Mecca, and giving to those less fortunate. Eid Mubarak! to all in our community who observe!

Family Input for Class Placement Next Year

A regular end-of-the-year task that staff work on is student groupings for class placements next year. All staff have input on groupings that can best support students within the school day. We also appreciate your input for staff to consider on how your child works and learns best. Below is our family input form.

Please do not request a teacher by name or gender. Additionally, please do NOT include negative information about past teachers, as the teachers read these forms when assisting with class assignments. If you do, please know it will be deleted.

Because of enrollment changes over the summer, class assignments will not be finalized until the middle of August 2026. Families will be contacted by the assigned teacher before the start of Open House in August.

If you are interested in sharing information, please complete the form below by Sunday, May 31.

Flyer for Spring Cultural Awareness & Recognition Event Night on Thursday, May 21, 6 - 7:30 pm

Join Us for Our Spring Cultural Awareness & Recognition Event (CARE) Night This Thursday, May 21, 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Our final cultural celebration event of this school year—Spring Cultural Awareness & Recognition Event (CARE) Night—will be held THIS THURSDAY, May 21, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. We’ll have displays and activities for you to learn more about Autism Acceptance Month, Arab American Heritage Month, Jewish American Heritage Month, Easter, Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, and Caribbean Heritage Month, which all occur during the spring season. There will  be music and snacks as well. Please let us know you’re planning to attend by filling out this form.

Please Note: If we do not reach a minimum number of people planning to attend by noon tomorrow (Tuesday), we will need to cancel the event.

Field Day Is Coming Friday, June 5, Volunteers and Materials Needed!

Field Day 2026 will be Friday, June 5, for all grade levels. This schoolwide event allows the students to participate in a variety of games and activities as a class. They will rotate through stations that provide different challenges.

  • Third through 5th grade students will participate in Field Day from 9:20 a.m. to 12:05 p.m.
  • Kindergarten through 2nd grade students will participate from 12:50 to 3:35 p.m.

Sixth graders will be running stations this year, but adult volunteers are also needed to support them. Volunteers will help the students have a memorable day by coordinating station activities. All volunteers will receive instructions on how the station should run. There will be some water stations this year, so we need some volunteers who are willing to get wet.

All volunteers will need to sign up with the new FCPS volunteer system, if they haven’t already completed the approval process. Our family liaison, Melanie Crosby Hardy, will be monitoring our Sign-Up Genius electronic sign-up and will contact those volunteers who still need to register in that system.

Here is the link to sign up to help: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0C44ACAE2BA6FA7-63530838-field.

Thank you for supporting this special activity and our P. E. team!
