The summer box office is in full swing and things are looking rosy, with the four-day weekend bringing in $222 million, well past the $190 million that studio insiders had projected and just a hair below the $223 million recorded in 2022, which featured "Top Gun: Maverick." What's likely to give exhibitors some optimism was the healthy mix of films that performed well. The $100 million take of "The Mandalorian and Grogu" would be good for most films — but marks the worst opening of a Star Wars film under Disney. That didn't matter... |
